April 1 update

salamun alaykum,

Here is a brief overview of topics we will cover this week in shaa Allah

Language

Students are writing play/movie scripts that we will hopefully be able to film and present to the other classes in the school in shaa Allah.

We have already covered differences in layout and punctuation for scripts, and we're all excited to see what kind of stories the children can come up with for their movies in shaa Allah.

Math

Students are continuing work with data management (tallies, graphs, pictographs, etc.)

Art

Students will be developing their understanding of translation, rotation, and reflection in shaa Allah.

Science

The students will reflect and review their Skyscraper projects in shaa Allah.

Reminder

- EQAO math packages are handed out on Friday and expected back by the following Friday. Please make sure you are sitting down with your children to make sure they understand.

- Try to keep consistent with the TenMarks.com assignments (the kids seem to be really enjoying it, and it's good practice for class and EQAO concepts).

- In case you weren't aware, you can download/print old EQAO booklets for Math and Language here:  http://www.eqao.com/Parents/Elementary/036/BookletsandGuides.aspx?Lang=E&gr=036&yr=08

- Encourage the students to write in journals (practicing spelling list words from their language notebooks), write stories, or try to practice writing "super sentences" (i.e. sentences with adjectives, adverbs, and other details).

Mar 28 update

salamun alaykum!

Thank you for all your help and support with the work at home. I have reduced the daily work load to allow the children time to work on weekly EQAO practice and online math assignments.

Some students also started their after-school program this week and will be working hard in the coming weeks in shaa Allah.

FYI I have given the students a new EQAO Math Package due next Friday, and some new work on TenMarks.com

Additionally, the children have a small EQAO Language practice this week.

Welcome back!

Salamun alaykum wa ramatullahi wa barakatuhu,

In shaa Allah you all enjoyed your time with your loved-ones over the break.

Language - Our focus for this month will continue to be on elements of writing, grammar, syntax and punctuation. This week we are reviewing concepts of subjects and predicates, before we move on to compound/complex sentences, and conjunctions/connectives.

Math - We are continuing our learning with 3D shapes and our Skyscraper activity. However, we will also be adding information about measuring area & volume.

Islamic - Our topic for the remainder of the month is "Respect".

I have asked the students to choose 2 different ways they can show respect. They are to write a paragraph about these two ways of showing respect to hand in by this Wednesday in shaa Allah.

Jazakum Allahu khayran for your continued support and effort with the students.
