Salamun alaykum,
Here is some info on what we are working on in class this week.
Science
Bridges, structures, and forces.
We had the children take their learning from the skyscraper project to begin constructing bridges. We have covered how forces act on bridges, and architectural features that can help bridges be strong.
Math
We talked about probability of events (unlikely, most likely) and related it today with the scientific method (i.e. experimentation).
Tied with our learning about bridges we are also going to look at measuring mass/ weight. This will help us review conversion of metric units, better understand why bridges need to be very strong, and learn more about forces.
Language
We are working this week on writing using different sources of inspiration. Yesterday we wrote a bit about our environment after looking at some pollution pictures for Earth Day.
Thank you as always for all your help and support. We're getting closer to the end of the year now, and it is very important that we continue our best efforts to help the children achieve their best in shaa Allah.

Earth Day competition
salamun alaykum,
Here is a great activity the children can work on over the long weekend.
I'm sure the 3B students could come up with some amazing pieces of art or writing to submit on Tuesday when we return.

update
salamun alaykum,
thank you again for all your support and hard work.
Math
The students are moving on from fractions and starting to look at probability/likelihood. We even got to use our knowledge of tally charts today to collect data from some probability experiments.
Language
The students have been working on including openers that indicate time changes in their writing (e.g. Firstly, Next, Then, Lastly, Finally, Afterwards)
We have also worked on different writing styles (i.e. play/movie scripts).
Science
We have continued our exploration of structures to bridges. This will lead us into talks about forces (e.g. gravity, tension), and eventually tie into the topic of mass in math in shaa Allah.
EQAO
Masha Allah the kids have been making big efforts in their writing, reading, spelling, and math work. It's starting to show more in their practice tests and daily work.
This week I will send home another EQAO package to practice over the long weekend, and we worked on a reading section today in class.

Scholastic Book Fair
Dear Parents,
Assalamu Alaikum
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming this Wednesday and Friday! What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event.
We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s books. Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the Fair up to $6 comes directly back to our school? Your support of this vital literary event is key in helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms.
You’ll find hundreds of quality books at our book fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. On Monday, April 7, 2014, your child will be bringing home the book fair flyer that provides a preview to only a FEW of the many books available for purchase at our fair.
The flyer also contains a special Family Event Draw ballot that parents can deposit during our book fair. You could win $50 in books – $25 for your family PLUS $25 for your child’s classroom!
Don’t forget to mark the book fair dates on your calendar! We look forward to seeing you during our Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you, in advance, for supporting this great literary fundraiser. Mostly, thank you for believing in books and the importance reading has on your child’s future.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 9 and Friday, April 11, 2014
TIME: 8:45 to 3:30 (both days)
