This is a brief update on what grades 3 (both A and B) are currently working on in Language Arts and Social Studies.
Language: We are currently wrapping up our inferencing unit. Students have been doing very well and have definitely enjoyed the unit thus far. Students were asked to use context clues in order to predict future events in a story. They used the same context clues to guess past events. We will be having an inferencing test on Monday, April 15, 2013 Insha'Allah. Inferencing is a skill that students will take with them to upper grades. Also, we are working on punctuation. We are now studying periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. Students will be given many punctuation drills in class and for homework. Students will have a punctuation test that focuses on commas, periods, question marks, and capitalization on Thursday Arpil 18, 2013.
Social Studies: Students will be presenting their "Map of Canada Assignment" this week. Once we are finished, we will begin studying the following topics:
- Early settlers and First Nation peoples in Upper Canada around 1800.
-The various interactions between new settlers and existing communities, including First Nation peoples,
and the impact of factors such as heritage, natural resources, and climate on the development
of early settler communities.
Thank you,
Teacher Ghadeer.
